Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, is considering filing for bankruptcy amidst a myriad of lawsuits blaming the company for fueling the nation’s opioid epidemic. Cities and states, including Massachusetts, fear that their ability to recover damages will be greatly delayed and reduced if the drug maker files for relief. This comes on the heels of a recent $270 million settlement between Purdue and the state of Oklahoma.
